Anna Niamh Gorman is an emerging Set & Costume Designer. Her latest work includes set and costume design for ‘A Manchester Anthem’ at the Vaults Festival 2023 which won the “Show of the Week” award and was asked to come back for the final weekend of the festival. It received numerous 5* reviews and will now play at the Edinburgh Fringe.
Cindy Marcolina (Broadway World, Feb 2023) remarked,
“We’ll hear of this creative team for years to come...Anna Niamh Gorman sets the tone with Manchester’s distinctive features on cardboard boxes in a well-executed exercise in visual minimalism.”
BingeFringe, Feb, 2023, also commented,
“The piece is a sensory tour de force, with creative design to die for...the production design not only compliments but completely synthesizes with the performance ethos of the piece.”
Anna Niamh Gorman is a recent graduate of the Royal Central School for Speech & Drama (MA in Advance Theatre Practice) and the Wimbledon College of Arts (BA Theatre Design with 1st Class Honours). Her work includes collaboration with Half Cut Theatre, 5-a-Side Theatre, Ovalhouse and the London Contemporary Dance School. She is a founding member of Deadweight Theatre–a company of actors, writers and designers concerned with devised and immersive practice. Most recently she designed the set for A Manchester Anthem (Dir: Charlie Norburn) at the Vaults Festival 2023 – receiving 5* reviews – and has been working as an Assistant Designer for Lizzie Clachan at the National Theatre giving her a greater insight into larger scale productions.
Anna Niamh Gorman adds: “I would like to build on the experience that I have gained as an emerging designer. One of my strengths is to communicate my ideas visually by using small quick sketches to capture thinking and progress a project. This accelerates the design process and helps me to achieve positive results. Living and working in London also means I am used to sourcing and hiring from places across the city.
For all my previous work I have developed skills in designing, sourcing, the make and build of set–plus studying the script, discussions with director and other team members and keeping within budget. I have just finished two shows that are part of the Sprint Festival and keen to get stuck into new and exciting projects like yours!”
